Chapter 28

 Chapter 28

A rock skips gracefully across the water, the tiny little fish under the water gazing up at this new action curiously. The fish don’t miss their family because their family is always there with them. Or people they knew. They didn’t have to travel to another realm or something like that, they didn’t have to leave abruptly from their family and try to act like everything was ok. I sigh. It’s been a month since I was captured and everyone already knows that Lamia is targeting me, they already know that they have to keep me safe at literally all times. I miss the happy smile of my mom when I got home or the look of remorse when I caught my brother doing something he shouldn’t. What is even worse? Knowing that I can’t go back. Knowing that I may never see those faces again. “You know you can’t just stay here forever.” I look behind me to see Nixon. I’ve gotten to know him better this past month since I was introduced to him. “Yeah I can.” I protest. He sits down next to me. He wears a plaid long sleeve shirt and some jeans.

Although his hair doesn’t look like it has been combed, he’s still incredibly good looking. “Ok, what’s going on?” Nixon asks me, his face full of curiosity. “I miss my family. Back when Corrin brought me here I was so excited and overwhelmed that I didn’t have the time to miss the human world. The elves here...they just make everything seem so much better than the human world.” I reply. “The human world seems pretty awesome to me. Especially what do they call it...slime?” Nixon smiles and I can’t help but smile as well. “I’m not sure if I want to know what you would do with slime if you had some.” I say. “You would want to know, once your hair is covered in it.” Nixon jokes. “When I was little I came here everyday and looked at the fish. I had no friends at the time so I named some of the fish. I named one orangey, one sandy, and one bluey. I talked to them even sometimes.” Nixon confesses.

“Really? Those are some pretty interesting names.” I laugh. His cobalt blue eyes gaze into the clear water. I wring my hands together. “Why did everyone want me instead of everyone else? Why did I get rescued first?” I eventually decide to ask. “Well, you are part of the mission and that’s apparently a really important thing to be a part of so….and you also have quite a bit of secrets to hide.” Nixon glances at me and grins. “I just don’t feel comfortable telling some people. That’s all.” I respond. “Not comfortable telling me?” Nixon’s face is full of humor but I can see the hurt in his eyes. “I would but I...I don’t know. I trust you completely but….I just want to stay on the safe side. This place is well… secluded but there still could be people listening.” I say. Nixon nods. “Since I can’t do slime…” Before I can say anything, Nixon takes a handful of water and throws it at me. “Oh your on!” we both grin as the battle of the water continues.

    2. I'll bet he's slowly plucking out all the secrets from Byleth while make himself seem as normal as he can! Then once he has no need for her and he knows everything, he'll backstab her!!😄 yeah, I actually have NO idea if Nixon has anything to do with Lamia
